Hi! We’re Friends of The Rockies - a directory for People of Color and Queer community in the outdoors of Colorado.
First and foremost, we recognize and honor the original stewards of what is now called Colorado - the Ute, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Apache, Pueblo and Shoshone nations. Their long and continued work to preserve these lands is what allows us an opportunity for deep connection with the land today.
Common questions:
Where?
This net is cast for all of Colorado. From the Western Slope to the Eastern Plains, we want to hear from you.
Why!
We’ve noticed a recurring ask from outdoorists for groups of color and Queer community. They’re hard to find, and quite frankly, there aren’t many. One of the goals of FoTR is to make it an easy online search to find groups that fit these needs. In the same vein, connecting with resources and professionals as well.
Why!
Our community has a lot of dreamy projects and ideas. Putting them into action can be hard. Our hope is that creating easier ways to connect and find resources will reduce those barriers. From making a film, meeting folks in the industry, to funding projects, we’re working to increase access for each of us.
Why!
People also ask, “How do I start my own group?” Our hope is that these groups will provide a source of inspiration to start your own. We are also working to create a quick one-sheeter of tips and tricks to start your own group.

Disclaimer: “We” is “me” - see below. I’d like to eventually have a volunteer group to develop this into an active directory, a way to create events and more together. Those listed under groups/resources are not obligated to associate with the directory, and can opt out by sending me an email.
Hi!
The Goals
01
Provide Community
02
Develop Resources
Making connections to help connect the dots. From planning to trips, to finding jobs - maybe even a gear library. We believe all things become possible when we come together.
03
More Time Outside
Outside time is both rad and essential for mental health and personal/community growth. Getting outside with culture and providing that accessibility for each other is priceless and needle-moving.
Hi : )
I’m Laura - a latina trail athlete in Salida, CO. I moved to Colorado from San Antonio, TX in 2018 and have loved it since day one. To me, connection is the essence of life and finding little pockets in the outdoor space where that is provided is healing - particularly when it’s with folks who share a similar background. Friends of The Rockies is my reach for connection and effort to provide it for others as well. Whether it’s for People of Color and/or those in the Queer community, my hope is for this space to provide access to one another.
If you’re an outdoor group, someone who works on a ranch, a physical therapist, work brand-side or anything else, I’d be honored to have you listed. (And if you think this sucks and are like, nah fuck off - that’s fair and I can remove you if you are already listed.)
K thanks be safe out there,
Laura
